Using the phone to gain new JV partners
The phone can be the most intimidating for many marketers but has the potential to be the most effective. Now you absolutely should make sure that you are invited to call. Some of the gurus list their telephone numbers on their websites or as part of the programs they are promoting and encourage subscribers to call. Others are listed on national do not call registries that prohibit marketing via telephone. You need to make sure that you aren’t breaking laws before calling as the fines can be harsh.
What do you say when you get them on the line?
This is the most difficult for most Internet Marketers hoping to solidify a profitable Joint Venture. It is a good idea to begin by introducing yourself and letting them know why your name should be familiar.
If you have worked with others that they may know better than you this is a good time to drop names. Be careful though, they will probably check to make sure that you aren’t blowing smoke so make sure that you have the relationships you claim to have with other marketers and that they are going to be willing to speak up for you.
Build a rapport of sorts before jumping into your offer but be careful that you aren’t wasting their time. Everything comes down to time. You want to make pleasantries, make your pitch, and then allow them time to let it sink in.
It’s a good idea to have an outline of what you’d like to accomplish and a script of sorts to follow for your conversation. However, do not simply read from a script word for word as you will sound very false and just like a insurance salesman. Instead you’re better off just writing a few bullets which you can refer to as you speak off the cuff to your prospective JV partner. You’ll be amazed at how smoothly things go when you have a plan of action or how impressed they will be by this small detail. Tell them your goals, what you have to offer them, what you would like them to do for you, and give them time to think it over.
You should also be mindful of their situation at home. Some of them work at home with children and may not be able to drop everything for a phone call, especially with someone they do not know. If things seem hectic or distracted on the other end of line try scheduling a better time to call. Be persistent but don’t be pushy.
What experiences have you had using the phone to reach potential JV partners? I’d love to hear about them…
